Back with an EDGE

June 24th, 2007

I’ve just come back from my European vacation and on my way out to my first vacation destination I happened to go through a London airport.  With a ton of time to kill before my next flight, I checked out some magazines and discovered “EDGE”.  I’d heard good things about EDGE before but never picked up a subscription because of a crazy subscription price ($75 for 13 issues). Despite the somewhat ridiculous newsstand price (nearly $9 USD), I decided to pick it up.

It is, by far, the best videogame magazine I’ve ever read.  It reminds me a bit of the old “Next Generation” magazine (and is published, I think, by the same company) before it sort of became like all the other crappy VG mags, but is probably even better than that ever was.  The articles are actually well written and don’t sound like they’ve been written by obsessed fanboys.  It’s actually remarkably levelheaded and intelligent writing.

Get this… the previews actually contain criticisms and real impressions on what works and what doesn’t.  Are we listening American media?  Why are the American print magazines so inferior?

I haven’t plunked down the $75 bucks yet for the subscription yet, but I’m now seriously considering it.  AnyAmerican print magazine want to show me why I’m wrong and save me some money?

Facelift Coming

June 15th, 2007

For those of you unimpressed with our standard Wordpress layout, we’re working on some overhauls of the site that are currently being tested.  It may take a little while to get the kinks worked out, but it’s on its way.

Vacation Time Again

June 15th, 2007

I’m going on vacation again, starting today until a week from Sunday, and this time, I will have no computer with me at all.  I know, it’s a scary thought, but I figured I may actually want to DO things while I’m away, so no computer for me.  See you in about a week!

Math Failed Us

April 20th, 2007

Math is no longer required for commenting after receiving some complaints.  I am trying an alternate spam blocker, so we’ll see what happens.  Math may return if this does not work.

Thanks for everyone’s input!

Math now required to comment

April 20th, 2007

Due to an onslaught of recent spam, I have added a plugin that requires you to solve a simple math problem in order to comment.  I apologize for the inconvenience, but you can blame the spammers for it.  Hopefully, this shouldn’t be too much of a burden as the math problems are really really simple, so please continue to add your comments.

If you don’t like having to solve the math problem for every comment you write, an easy way to avoid it is to simply create a login.  Once you’ve created a login, you can stay logged in automatically if you like, and you’ll never have to input any of your info again, or solve any math problems.

Back and busy…

April 3rd, 2007

As some of you may know, I’ve been on vacation the last week.  Unfortunately, as is often the case with vacations, the work has piled up quite a bit since I left.  I will definitely be posting more this week, but wanted to let everyone know that I may still be posting somewhat irregularly.  Thanks for your patience!

Expand Our Horizons

April 1st, 2007

(I brought this up to the main page, since I’m afraid it’ll get lost in the comments.)

A commenter below noted that we link to Kotaku a lot.  As Jeff mentioned, Kotaku - and Joystiq - are some of the biggest news sites for gaming and so we do refer to them quite a bit.  But of course, content-rich gaming blogs are also a relatively new phenomenon, and if there were more sites that we should be paying attention to, please let us know.

Any suggestions for future reading?  We’re looking primarily for sites that feature updates at least once per day and provide original content.  Of course, if you have a personal gaming site, let us know that as well, since we will probably be creating a separate blogroll section for those.

On Vacation

March 24th, 2007

As of today, I am on vacation.  I will try to update now and then, but my posts will probably be a lot more sporadic than they have been.  I’ll be back to my “normal” schedule on April 1st.  Thanks!
