This is our blog’s 1,000th post!

And… we’re back (just about)

I’ve managed to get most of the layout back, although it is slightly different than it was before.  Still, it looks like this should work pretty well.  I have a few more tweaks left to get it to where I want it.  Let me know if you notice anything glaring that still needs to be fixed or if you have any recommendations.

Technical Difficulties…

I apologize for the weirdness going on with the site right now.  I’m trying to fix the issue with the garbage at the bottom of the page, which clearly is not working at the moment.  Hopefully things will be back to normal soon, but if not, please bare with me.

*Update* - I got rid of the garbage, but I’ve obviously screwed up the layout of the site now.  Still working on this. =)

*Update 2* - Well, I accidentally deleted my most recent theme and since I haven’t dug into it in awhile, I’m having trouble getting everything back.  I’ve upgraded word press and the spam at the bottom of the page seems to be gone, but it’s unbelievably still somehow making it’s way into the source (I don’t really get that, but that seems to be what’s happening).  However, correcting the theme so that everything looks right again will have to wait until tomorrow when I have a bit more time and energy.  I apologize for the issues and I hope that we’ll have everything back to normal soon.

*Update 3* - The spam has been found and deleted.  The layout is obviously still in need of some work, and I also deleted several dozen user accounts last night for users that I’d never seen a message for.  I apologize if I ended up deleting your account, but we get quite a bit of spam accounts as well and I decided it was time to clean house if I hadn’t seen any posts from you yet.

Expand Our Horizons

Periodically, it seems like a good idea to ask what blogs or sites we’re not reading regularly that we should be.  The blogroll gives you a pretty good idea of the main sites we hit (although it’s probably a little outdated).  So - any recommendations?  Since there’s plenty of news out there, I’d be particularly interested in suggestions regarding thoughtful opinion or commentary.

IE Problems

Its come to my attention that there seem to be some problems with IE users accessing the site.  It appears that the issue is fairly widespread among blogs and may involve some buggy JavaScript from Sitemeter.  We’ll look into it and see what can be done.

A possible temporary fix if you’re not interested in switching to Firefox (your mileage may vary here):

To fix IE7: Click on the menu Tools -> Internet Options. Click on the tab Security. Click on the icon Restricted Sites. Click on the button Sites. Type the text ‘*.sitemeter.com’ (without quotes). Click the Add button.

ALTTF Invades Joystiq!

We had been hinting at something big for some time now, but it’s finally official: your editors of A Link to the Future will be writing a weekly column for Joystiq!

Don’t worry, we’re not leaving ALTTF behind for this. You can still expect the same kind of commentary and analysis that you’ve come to expect from us, but this will simply be in addition to our current work on the site.

The column is called “Counting Rupees” and is focused on the business behind gaming. You can check out our first one here.  Enjoy!

Happy Birthday to Us

It’s hard to believe, but today marks the 1-year anniversary of alinktothefuture.com.

Actually, if you want to get technical, our first post went up a year and 2 days ago, but since I forgot to mention it then, today is exactly 1 year from when we actually first officially welcomed our visitors.

Coming up this year we’ll continue our unparalleled commentary and continue to make some improvements to the site.  Also, I know we’ve teased about this a little bit before, but very soon we should have some exciting news to share.  Stay tuned.

In any case, thank you to all of our loyal readers for sticking with our humble site this past year.  When we started this, we honestly had no idea if anyone would visit us.  We thought maybe just a few of our friends would pop in once in awhile to comment, or that Geoff and I would simply conduct our usual IM discussions in comments instead (which, of course, we often do anyway).  But it’s expanded to more than that, and while we’re not anywhere near the big sites in terms of traffic, I’m proud of our small, but loyal, readership and the discussions that we have here.

You, the readers, make this all worth it.  Once again, thank you and keep stopping by!
