Expand Our Horizons
August 6th, 2008Periodically, it seems like a good idea to ask what blogs or sites we’re not reading regularly that we should be. The blogroll gives you a pretty good idea of the main sites we hit (although it’s probably a little outdated). So - any recommendations? Since there’s plenty of news out there, I’d be particularly interested in suggestions regarding thoughtful opinion or commentary.

I highly recommend gamerswithjobs.com.
They have a pretty vibrant community and the contributors are generally pretty talented writers. Several actually write for various gaming magazines and other more mainstream technical publications for their income.
Their conference call(podcast) is possibly the best I’ve heard. They are all mature, very well educated, well spoken, humorous individuals and they have a fantastic rapport. It’s weekly and about 90 minutes. Editing is rock solid and they even get the occasional A-lister like John Carmack for an interviewee.

http://www.game-ism.com
its written by a game designer who works for some publisher/developer. The blog is based around game design. The author most always has some interesting ideas.

I’m fond of Ars Technica’s Opposable Thumbs and Wired’s Game|Life, but the stuff they report tends to be reported in other blogs as well, so I’m not sure you’re missing anything.
Geoff, is that Now Playing list current? It seems a bit outdated as well.

^Yeah, I noticed that too. Also, not a big deal, but eat-sleep-game has been defunct for several months now.

Yeah, the blogroll isn’t necessarily indicative of who’s in my Favorites bar… I’ve been reading GameLife for a while. And since I haven’t been playing much lately, I haven’t bothered to update it much.
Thanks to all for the suggestions!
