Not the Bestest Ever Multiplayer Game, at least, any more

June 5th, 2008

After a brief stint at the top of XBox Live, GTA IV is no longer the most popular multiplayer game on XBox Live any more.  It’s been overtaken by both Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3. That didn’t take too long.

In all fairness, the multiplayer in GTA IV was only one aspect of the game that was so popular with reviewers, and my sanity has been partially restored as it is no longer ranked as the best game of all time.

    Does anyone else find it strange that Gamerankings goes out to the third decimal place on its averages?

    Yeah, I found that interesting. I also found it interesting that the ocarina review score changed no less than 3 times over the last few weeks. I know some of the changes were “legit” but it’s still pretty lame to think that the scores they show are not even necessarily accurate according to their own metrics.

    The thing I hate about gamerankings is that they list games multiple times in the rankings….so gta appears twice…anf HL2 appears 3 times…if you count the orange box.

    They should either average them out or take the highest ranked one for the rank.

    @Dave,

    I agree, 4 of the top 10 are occupied by 2 games. That unfairly restricts the top 10 to 8 actual games. What if orange box and gta4 were released on the PS2 and Wii and got equally high ratings? 8 of the top 10 games would be occupied by 2 actual games.

    You see the problem, I also feel that anthologies should not be eligible. Because they are not rated as games, but as collections. When does it end? If anthologies can be treated as the best game ever, then why aren’t we seeing any of those every NES game ever on one cart’ things up there? They contain some of the best games ever made, after all. Where does it end?
