Problems with SSB: Brawl online?
March 9th, 2008, 10:54pm by JeffI’ll try to have more impressions up later, but is anyone else having major problems with getting into an online game of Brawl? I’ve managed to get into a single game with only 1 other person, and that lasted all of 2 matches. Most of the time, whenever I start up a game I end up spending a few minutes in the “practice area” while all 3 extra players are at “seeking”. It eventually times out and I’m thrown back into either the main menu or the menu where you pick team or standard battle.
This is the first Wii game that I’ve tried an online component for, but I’ve never had a problem with any other kind of online multiplayer game, whether PS3, 360, PC, or even the DS. Is the network just so overloaded that it can’t even match me with a single other person? If this is what I have to look forward to for what should be one of Nintendo’s premiere online titles, you can count me out already.

No, Jeff, Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii has little to no lag, so the Wii can hndle lag-free play. I believe, much like most others with this same problem, that it was opening day floods of people jumping online, as well as opening day glitches for the game. Nothing too too serious, IMO. ^_^

M. Stinger-
Hope you’re right.. I know that Mario Strikers Charged had online play and a few other games have as well, but I haven’t played them… and it’s probably safe to say that Smash Bros. is Nintendo’s biggest online game to date. I’m sure they knew that as well, and you would hope that they would’ve prepared for it.
Last night I tried playing again. I managed to get into just 1 game in about an hour. That game had 4 people to start, then after 1 match a person dropped, and then after 2 everyone dropped. If it takes me an hour just to get into 2 matches, that’s not a good sign.

Many people and myself having some problems too. That said, SSBB is a huge title with many gamers going online at once, and if you can’t give a substantial amount of time for Internet-ignorant Ninty to fix this (when even MS’s Live was down over the winter/new years), then you obviously shouldn’t bother with the game in the first place with a fantastic quote such as “If this is what I have to look forward to for what should be one of Nintendo’s premiere online titles, you can count me out already.”

I hope you’re right, honestly. I will say that I didn’t experience any trouble with Mario Kart DS as soon as it came out, and they should’ve been prepared for this as well. I shouldn’t have to spend an hour just to play a couple matches (only 1 with all 4 people).
For the record, I know MS had some problems with Live, but for the most part I didn’t have too much trouble with it. Maybe it was just because I wasn’t doing as much over live during that time, but seemingly, when I wanted to play an online game, I didn’t have much trouble… and if I did, at least I knew it was down. I didn’t try to play a game for an hour and manage to get just 2 2-minute matches in.

I had a *lot* of trouble with Live around that time. However, Live is usually so stellar that I tend to give Microsoft more of a break when they do have problems. Nintendo still has to prove itself to me.
I couldn’t get into a random game last night, but I was able to play with a friend. That was pretty fun, although there was a bit of lag. It does have the obnoxious, Nintendo-bog-standard “feature” where after you finish playing with a friend you go back to the menus and have to go make/rejoin a game with your friends. Why does Nintendo not understand that I want to play more than one round in a row with the same people?
I enjoyed Internet Smash, but this is mostly going to be a local multiplayer game for me.

Me and a buddy had problem with the friend battles and did the “with anyone” and we got paired together. There was a lot of lag
