Underestimating The Future
January 27th, 2008To quote Mayor Quimby… very well, if that is the way the winds are blowing, let no one say I don’t also blow. Endless Ocean got lots of comment praise here for daring to do something different - which as gamers are so sadly aware, is seldom done and even more rarely rewarded. So a list of games likely to fly under the radar in 2008 is probably of interest to the readership.
My guesses for the best of the bunch are Professor Layton, The World Ends With You, and Time Hollow. But your mileage may vary.

Well, I’ve got preorders in already for Professor Layton and Patapon; the latter will be helped by its $20 pricepoint at release. I expect N+ will do okay and I’ll probably pick it up on XBLA; N has a large online cult following already. Nothing I’ve heard about De Blob has me excited, but we’ll see, I guess. Frankly, I think Arkanoid DS deserves to be underrated — not that it’s going to be a poor implementation, but Jesus, how many Arkanoid iterations do we need?
The rest of these games I’ve never even heard of, but some of them sound interesting. I’ll keep an eye out.
The only reason I’ve heard about any of these, though, is that I read lots of gaming-related stuff online. The simple fact is that there’s no marketing for this stuff. That’s why it’s not going to sell — no one knows what it is.
