Riddle Me This…

November 29th, 2007, 10:18pm by Geoff

How exactly can SCEA state that they don’t disclose console unit sales until NPD releases them, while providing percentage increase figures over a previously disclosed figure?  Moreover, it seems quite odd to dispute a competitor’s claims while not providing evidence of that claim.

Does that mean Microsoft is correct?  By no means.  But it would’ve made sense to wait to prove it.

    Geoff, I thought exactly the same thing when I saw their comment. Something’s fishy about them disputing Microsoft and not giving any data to back up their statement.

    Laes — oh man I saw that. If it’s true then I’m permanently boycotting all things cnet. Not that I used much from them anyway :/

    I only hope there’s some more info that comes out that lets us know how true it is.

    @Allanon,

    “Laes — oh man I saw that. If it’s true then I’m permanently boycotting all things cnet. Not that I used much from them anyway :/”

    I’m sure it IS true. But most of the major sites buy and sell reviews ALL THE TIME. Just look at metacritic, its pretty obvious when it happens. Most reviewers will give a game a 7 and 2 or 3 guys will give it 9s and 10s (See Play magazines gushing over Lair for a good example). This industry (gaming and its media) are inseparable and corrupt. With all the perks and bennies that the publishers and developers give to the reviewers and the parent sites, with the fact that those reviewing the games are also paid advertisers for the companies they are reviewing, its impossible for them NOT to be shills. The paid gaming press are a joke due to this enormous conflict of interest. There is very little legitimacy. I bet this happens all the time. I wouldn’t change my behavior over it one bit.
