Fun With Statistics, Part IV
November 26th, 2007, 10:46pm by GeoffYou have to love a press release that names percentages rather than whole numbers. For example, this Sony release on the sales of PS3s this Black Friday vs. last year’s. When you have nice round numbers like 178%, you know things are looking good.

I was thinking the same thing. The irony is that percentages always look best when you’re starting point is a very small number.

I really do believe the PS3 is doing better. Not great… but better. The price drop seems to be helping them and the library’s improving a little bit.
Still not ready for primetime, though.

Its definitely selling “more”, but “better” is a tough call. I was reading an analysis of the annual sales numbers of all consoles over the last 7 years and according to historical sales numbers, going into November EVERY consoles sales double. Its normal. As you get into December, sales double again. Its a standard track. Basically, the point is that the PS3 numbers SHOULD be doubling and more as we get closer to December, even without a price cut, which means the price cut hasn’t really helped sales that much from what normally happens in November. So, we’ll have to see what happens after the holidays to really have any idea.

I love how sony says that Ps3 sales are up ‘nearly 300%’ whne in fact they are up less than 250%. Apparently sony rounds up from 40.

That’s a good point, cisco. I didn’t consider that.
