Open Thread and Mini-Posts

August 19th, 2007

Time for another open thread with some mini posts.  Feel free to comment on anything you want, or on one of the below topics:

  • The first hour of Metroid Prime 3 was accidentally leaked on Gamesradar recently.  Luckily, someone captured the videos and put them on Youtube before they took them down. If you don’t mind spoiling yourself a tad, check them out here before Nintendo gets to them as well.  Does the beginning remind anyone else of Halo 1?  The grapple “lasso” looks fun, though.
  • Speaking of Metroid Prime 3, supposedly the first review of 10/10 has been leaked.  Take it with a huge grain of salt, though, as it was Nintendo Power’s review, not exactly known to be the most impartial reviewers.  I certainly wouldn’t jump the gun as these guys have.
  • The Ninja Gaiden series may continue it’s schizophrenic streak as the next actual sequel has been allegedly confirmed for the 360, but not the PS3 as of yet.
  • 1up has a new preview up of the Wii exclusive NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.  If you ask me, these screenshots are looking far better than the last few sets that have been released.
  • Is the Halo Movie already being prepped for a 2008 release?  Honestly, I don’t really care.  Let me let you in on a little secret: the movie is going to suck.  I don’t care who is directing and I most certainly don’t care who is producing (just look at both The Lost World and Transformers… both sucked with the same good director/producer in place).  If it turns out to be good, I’ll be more than willing to take this back.  But I wouldn’t expect more than just a generic sci-fi movie.
  • Jack Thompson is at it again.  My question is, why is Jack Thompson watching wrestling, anyway?
  • Kotaku has embedded several Gametrailers links to several Ratchet and Clank Future videos.  My favorite parts are the dancing T-rex and the strange Danny Elfman-esque Pirates of the Carribean-like music.
  • Someone rich and stupid bought a rare WoW CCG card for $2000.  It gives access to a rare mount inside WoW, which I suppose is why the card is so expensive.  I suppose if having people say to you “Nice Mount” within the game is something that really matters to you, then perhaps $2000 is worth it.

The dollar figure and accessory might change, but this is perhaps the motto of every MMO ever made.

You really thought it was that bad, Laesp? I honestly thought it was fine. My only complaint was that the beginning is basically the exact same as Halo 1’s beginning, although with more motion-sensing fun.

Still have my copy on order from Amazon.

  5. FX-1 Says:

Laspy, you’re not really complaining about anything. The series is actually getting back on track with the new Hunters and the voice acting really isn’t bad. . . at all.

  6. Jeff Says:

    FX-1:

Actually, the Hunters worry me a bit. I could never finish up Metroid Prime: Hunters as I just kind of lost interest in it. Hopefully they’ll be well done, but it is a concern of mine.

But the voice acting that I’ve seen hasn’t bothered me at all.

  7. FX-1 Says:

I couldn’t finish Hunters for the same reason but everything I’ve read seems to indicate that, in the Metroid time-line, the Galactic Federation started the Space Hunter Program to enlist as much support as possible and many Hunters joined. Samus isn’t the only one, just the most noteworthy and that was apparently the original intention of the game’s creator. He must have thought it would be a good idea else it wouldn’t be in there though, obviously, he’s no longer in creative control and various people at Nintendo are free to spin the story every direction they please. But, even if Prime 3 is a colossal failure, it’s not the end of Metroid. These franchises have all run in to big problems in the past (Zelda II for example) and been able to bounce back pretty fast. I worry little.
