One-Liners Part II

July 22nd, 2007

I’m not sure how many people actually hate these, but I have about 20 minutes left before I board my flight… so I thought I’d try to catch up quickly on anything I’ve missed in the last few days.

- In what universe does telling a company that has agreed but failed to comply with your regulations constitute a “sucker punch“?

- I’m as tired of the guy as anyone, but any Jack Thompson fight that can be drawn out over 4 posts is amusing enough to warrant a mention.

- If Lifetime really thinks that “women’s casual gaming” is equivalent to “Golden Girls Trivia” and “Sally’s Salon,” both they and their audience should feel very dirty.

- Headlining an article on the 360’s loss of $2B “Xbox 360 Still Not Profitable” strikes me as a bit of an understatement.  By my calculations, that’d be a loss of roughly $172 a console, and that’s only for one year.

- Is it just me, or has it been a little while since we’ve had interesting DS announcements besides Zelda?  It might just be me.

- Sony apparently has big things in the works for Leipzig.  We’ve been burned in the past by these sorts of promises, but I’m hoping one of the announcements might be extended battery life for the new PSP redesign, because I’m really looking for a reason to buy one.  The library, in my estimation, has reached critical mass.

- Finally, has anyone gotten Bomberman Live yet?  Thoughts?

I’ll have more substantive posts up tomorrow.

I picked up Bomberman Live and it’s great. My only disappointment is that there really isn’t a single player (just multiplayer with AI) and, as far as I can tell, you have to play that to open up new costumes. I suppose it’s better than being micro-transactioned to death, but still, it would’ve been nice if there were an actual separate single player game that would’ve opened up new costumes.

Of course, that would’ve probably taken a lot longer for them to release, and given how good the Live support is for it, I’m pretty happy with it. Definitely download it.

For others that want to play, my Gamertag is Leshrac55.

I don’t think it’s just you. I think developers are concentration on Wii now as far as Nintendo goes. It’ll probably balance out to the normal console-handheld relationship when Wii launch hype and dev’s surprise at Wii sales finally runs out.

I think we’ve long since passed the point where 3D Realms can be taken seriously.

Lifetime is not now nor has it ever, in my opinion, been in touch with the audience it claims to represent.

It’s not just you. I was just thinking that something must be wrong, because I haven’t bought a DS game in a long time.

I’ve got it. It’s okay. As Jeff says, it doesn’t have a “real” single-player. I’ve played it with four players, and while it’s fun, it wears out pretty quickly. We have, unfortunately, all played this before.

I agree with you — the PSP library finally makes it worth owning as something other than a portable NES (which I’ve done, by the way, and it’s overrated — the *quality* PSP games are much more interesting). I don’t expect anything truly mindblowing out of this next show, though.

Jeff, I don’t know that I’ll be playing Bomberman much, but I will probably add your GT to my list (guppyur).
