Big Crackdown Bug
May 12th, 2007I downloaded the “Free-for-All” update for Crackdown to play with Jeff last night, and of course ran smack into this bug. Now my save game has been erased, and I’m back to square one. Dammit.
Hope everyone else is luckier than me.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/oops/crackdown-dlc-borking-save-files-259893.php
1. Sign-in to Xbox Live
2. Start Crackdown and receive new Title Update (if you haven’t already)
3. Begin a Single Player Campaign game
4. Once loaded, press Start and choose “Quit”
5. Reboot Crackdown (soft reboot or hard reboot of console)
Hope this works

I’ve seen a ton of supposed reasons why the bug occurs, which basically means that people don’t really have a solid idea as to why the bug occurs at all. Hopefully that method works for people who are newly downloading the DLC, but unfortunately, once your progress is lost, I think it’s gone forever. This may seem kind of absurd, but… an argument for backing up console save games onto a memory card? Too bad the 360 doesn’t use a standard format like the Wii does… otherwise, I might just start doing that. I don’t have any clue how big the save files can get, so I have no clue if the 64MB is enough or if I’d need the 512MB, both of which are ridiculously expensive compared to SD Cards (which the Wii takes) of far greater volume.

It really pisses me off when companies push proprietary formats. Sony and MS both need to learn that satisfying a customer is how you make money, not by bleeding the ones you have dry with stupid crap like proprietary formats and overpriced downloadable content.
