A Glimmer of Hope
April 30th, 2007Five months of data doesn’t really count as much of a trend, but I’m pleased to see that Virtual Console sales are slowing a bit - the VC sold 1.5M games in the first two months it was out, but only 1.8M in the last three. This isn’t exactly a monumental drop-off, but for those of us who hope that people will stop paying for such expensive (yet very old) titles, it’s a glimmer of hope.
Again, I’d be very interested in seeing some more VC-related statistics. What’s the average number of VC titles purchased per person? Are a few hundred thousand hardcore fans driving the entire platform?

I’ve bought about 8 games I think. I play to buy at least 5-10 more as the once I want come out. I’m sure that there was a bit of a rush in the beginning for 2 reasons.
1. People wanted to try the VC, curiosity, etc.
2. If people didn’t have many launch titles they liked, they could supplement with a few VC games.
No. 1 will repeat itself over time as more and more users adopt but No. 2 will slow as more disc based games are released.
Basically, I think this is an expected drop and probably will continue a bit before leveling off and the bouncing based on what is released that month.
Once they reach that equilibrium, thats when they need to start releasing original content on the VC, new games for download we’ve never seen before. I have to assume they have something coming soon in that regard. If they don’t, man what a waste.
